About the destination:
Samobor is a beautiful small town close to Zagreb (20 km), along the border with Slovenia (5 km). It used to be a royal town, which is visible in the charm of the city. Beautiful promenades, cobbled streets and a grand main square where you can enjoy food and drinks from numerous restaurants and bars attract a lot of tourists, both Croatian and foreign. People from Zagreb like to visit Samobor during weekends to escape the big city.
While in Samobor, go to one of the patisseries and order kremšnita (cremeschnitte is a chantilly and custard cream cake dessert). The extremely popular Samobor kremšnita has a puff pastry top, predominantly custard cream filling (less whipped cream) with meringue and is finished with powdered sugar.
Samobor is specially nice to visit during the winter carnival, one of the oldest carnivals in Croatia. Every year more than 3000 children from elementary schools and kindergartens, 800 members of local committees and their allegory chariots, as well as 1000 participants from carnival groups from all over Croatia participate in this colorful and festive event.
